Play is children’s work at pre-school and we aim to develop a relaxed and friendly atmosphere where children feel free to try new experiences, make new friends and develop attitudes and skills which will be of value to them throughout their lives.
Belonging “..together..”
West Hawthorn Pre-School (WHPS) is a place of belonging and connection, compassion and care, wellbeing and education. The children are our highest priority. Together we grow and learn.
We pride ourselves on the quality of education we provide, based on respect, empathy, enjoyment and safety. We listen to our children and want them to recognise that they belong and are accepted. We value each child as an individual and celebrate diversity.
All families, children and early years practitioners are encouraged and given the opportunity to become active members in our pre-school. A sense of belonging is extended beyond the rooms and we treasure the community to which we belong.
Becoming “..grow, learn..”
We provide a stimulating, safe and supportive environment in which children are free to contribute, explore, take considered risks, reflect and thrive. We encourage learning to be flexible, interactive, and fun. We strive to ignite joy, curiosity and persistence in our children. We view children as capable and competent learners who are encouraged to grow in independence and frame their learning, in both group and individual experiences.
We are committed to delivering the Early Years Learning Framework/ Victorian Early Years Learning Framework, teaching excellence and professional development for our staff. At WHPS the children are surrounded by early years practitioners who build in them resilience, confidence and encourage the children to become inquisitive life-long learners.
Being “..celebrate..”
As a community, we acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we gather, the peoples of the Kulin Nation. We recognise their history and build an awareness of and respect for our land. Children are taught to understand and build a connection with the world through nature.
Our outdoor spaces are unique and precious to us, encourage independent exploration and provide opportunities for us to teach about caring for the world in which we live. We are committed to sustainable practices. We provide children time and space to ‘be’, to live in the moment, learn through play and enjoy their childhood.
